Melissa Newcomb founded the Syracuse City Volleyball Club after experiencing how beneficial club volleyball was in shaping her future. Newcomb went from struggling to find motivation in high school and graduating in the bottom of her class academically to excelling as a collegiate student-athlete and attending Stanford University, where she received her masters in communications. Newcomb has years of experience as a club coach, collegiate athlete, beach volleyball player and high school volleyball standout. Newcomb has coached at the K-12 level throughout Upstate, NY and the Bay Area, California. She also competes in open-level AVP beach volleyball tournaments around the country. Newcomb was a First-Team All Conference selection in college as well as team MVP, helping to lead her team to a DIII NCAA tournament appearance in 2018. In high school she guided her team to their first sectional and regional championship as well as their first state championship appearance.
Connor Millias is a co-founder of the Syracuse City Volleyball Club. He brings years of experience as a volleyball coach, indoor and beach volleyball player and accountant. Millias is currently a skilled accountant in Syracuse and previously worked as an accountant in Palo Alto, CA. Millias previously coached at Syracuse volleyball clubs as well as in the Bay Area, California for indoor and beach volleyball. He also competes around the country in open-level AVP beach volleyball tournaments, taking first place at a tournament in Ocean Beach, CA in 2022 and Long Beach, NY in 2021. Millias attended James Madison University, where he played on their indoor men’s club volleyball team. The team attended nationals in 2018. He transferred to Le Moyne College and earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting. In high school, Millias was selected as the Central New York Player of the Year and First-Team All CNY, helping to lead his team to a state championship appearance.
Rob Zerrillo graduated from Henninger High School in the Syracuse City School District in 1990. Zerrillo grew up in the northside playing sports in local parks and played football and lacrosse in high school. He transitioned to beach volleyball after a knee injury, which he played for 27 years before retiring from playing in leagues and tournaments. Zerrillo saw the benefits that club volleyball has on youth from watching his two daughters play club locally. As a graduate from the Syracuse City School District, Zerrillo knows that athletes in the city deserve the same athletic opportunities as others and have an extraordinary amount of talent waiting to be utilized. A talented businessman, he understands success starts with people and chemistry. Zerrillo visits all team practices to talk with players and coaches about their experience in CITY Club to ensure teams are meeting the coaching, academic and athletic requirements needed to have the most successful and enjoyable outcome.
